...First let me say that, after reading through 9 pages of what appears to be a tribute to Jamie Oliver and his success in misleading the public, smearing what was once considered a genius innovation in meat production and food safety, putting hundreds of workers out of a job, leading to dramatic increases in the cost of food (which will by the way have lead-on effects which will increase the number of poor people that go hungry each day), and also leading to millions of animals being raised to be slaughtered, which would not otherwise have been; well I guess it is easy for people to get caught up in all the media drama and catchy phrases and I suppose a touch of chemo-phobia, so much to completely ignore the facts, reality, and what actual experts, involved parties, official governing agencies have to say.
So, well done to you all, and especially to Jamie Oliver for putting hundreds out of jobs, contributing to animal cruelty and slaughter, and contributing to poverty and hunger.
I find it funny there are some "one hit wonders" and "pink slime" advocates that claim Jamie's fight for good food in schools for children has had some huge effect.
When Jamie said ""Pink Slime" is in 70% of ground beef" what happened? That was at least a year ago. Only McDonald's had the foresight to deal with the issue and a couple petitions were started to get "Pink Slime" out of school food.
Fast forward to last month when a USDA scientist goes to the media and says ""Pink Slime" is in 70% of ground beef" what happened? All hell breaks loose!
That would be the public listening to a "governing agency" "expert" (who actually saw the process and coined the phrase "Pink Slime") coupled with media feeding frenzy = SNAFU ![]()

Whilst it is clear that dear 'Joey' considers himself quite the cleverest mind known to Christendom (despite his repetative vocabulary), it is clear that he has no idea just how many 'visitors' to a sitelike this are in fact just as Kye describes.
Or that when a newbie suddenly appears in the midst of a debate & loudly 'goes off on one', how like a troll they appear to be!

I became so engrossed in what was being said, I started at Page1 & read all of the 'discussion'.
My original observations re: zealots with trollish manners still stand..........the randi.org debate seems not so much about the cynical debate of educational issues (as they wish it to be regarded), as about one set of people (in this case) saying, 'Please label it because I don't want to eat it.' & 'Since science cannot prove it is safe for our nations' children to eat, remove it from school kitchens.', being harangued by a bunch of energetic bullies who are claiming anyone who doesn't feel the same as they do are a bunch of scared, witless people who are afraid of 'progress', whereas really it comes down to the fact that they want to eat this 'mechanically recovered meat' & believe we shouldn't have any choice but to eat it too.
That isn't education, intelligance or modernity..........it is dictatorship.
If this stuff is going to be available it should be:
Adequately labeled so the consumer has the choice about whether to buy it or not, as they deem fit.
Not served to children (or other vunerable people without choice, ie hospitals, care homes etc), especially using emotive arguements such as budget spending etc as an excuse to do so.
Not hidden away in other foods within the catering trade, in order to make higher profit or for any other reason.
I accept that if it is deemed 'safe' by the Government of the day, it will be made more available.
I respect 'Joey Mcgee's' right to buy/eat it......
.......but he should respect my right NOT to.

Re: Pink Slime
I have been following that thread for about 2 weeks now.
I especially loved the post where joey described himself as a genius. Have you run across the site where he talks about how he used to be a psychic medium and truther? I especially liked where he linked to this article.how-to-sabotage-skepticism-from-the-inside-entwine-the-claim-with-the-cause do you recognize the strategies used in the second last paragraph? Turned on their head and used by a self described skeptic no less.

Could well be.
Genius our 'Joey' might be (in his own backyard), but he made himself look an idiot here..............did he convince anyone here to join his side of the argument?

Re: Pink Slime
If it is, he'd be best to stick to producing fine organic grass fed beef rather than pink slime. I'm sure that way he'd have us beating a path to his door to buy his beef. I don't mind paying for quality, I object to paying for rubbish.
