I'm going to teach English

to a friend's husband who'll go to Africa  in the mid of June with a team of volunteers to do their best there.
Since this must be a super accelerated  and most useful learning/teaching, what would you choose for the best  to know 300 words

they'll work there doing all sorts of things needed from building walls to making electric and water installments

I feel something of me will be there aswell helping someway, help me to help and you'll be there too wink

Re: I'm going to teach English

Hi Grand-ma, its been ages since I posted on here, I have been reading - just not posting, anyway 300 words .........well how about please and thankyou to start with, perhaps if they are dealing with electric and water they should learn to ask " where is the main switch/tap"  big_smile  or how about " don't panic its just flushing the system "  shocked .

Honest I will give some thought and come back to you

Re: I'm going to teach English

there is a list of '100 key words ' that its important to learn first , these are very simple but well used words .
These help with reading and pronunciation.

ok these might seem mega simple but they are an important place to start ...

The first 100 Key Words

a  and   he   I   in   is   it   of   that   the   to   was   all   as   at   be   but   are   for had   have   him   his   not   on   one   said   so   they   we   with   you   about   an back   been    before    big    by   call   came    can    come    could    did    do   down first    from    get    go    has    her    here    if    into    just    like    little    look    made    make    me    more    much    must    my    no    new    now    off    only   or out    over    other    out    right    see    she    same    their    them    then    there this    two    up    want    well     went   who    were    what    when where    which    will    your    old

yes its an odd list !
children in school here in the UK learn these words early on in school as it makes it easier for them to read , write and spell .
OK so the people who you are teaching might not need to write or spell but it does help if they can recognise the way things are written and the words themselves, this list above will help with that .

so start here and then go on to other words.. dont skip this stage as it will make other words easier and faster to learn.
