Dome 60 wood fired oven arrives
Well our Dome 60 wood fired oven arrived on friday (14 week from order), as you can see it arrives in a smart looking box, dropped off outside our house. All I needed to do was round up a couple of mates!!!!
When Jamie says on his video "you will need 4 strapping mates" he is not joking the thing weighs a tonne, I know on the web site it says it is 200 kilo, I could only russell up three of us. How hard can it be?
At the side of the house is only a small walkway, but with the oven being 900mm wide plus a man either side there was no way of walking it into the garden, so we lined a wheelbarrow with dust sheets and pushed it round ( the oven on its side) with three of us it felt as though it was screwed to the ground when we first tried to lift it.
We eventually got it onto a raised section of decking, we had opted not to use the stand that it comes with to save us some space.
It looks like it has always been there and all the photos in the world don't do the oven justice it looks FANTASTIC.
You get a small box of Kiln dried timber to start you off but that goes in no time at all as you need to cure the oven first, starting at 50c raising it to 200c over eight hours, harder than you might think but very therapeutic.
By the time seven and half hours had past it was dark and raining, almost a Manchester heat wave, the temptation was to much so we popped in a couple of home made pizzas.
Not the best Idea I have ever had, but it is all part of the learning curve, as is your wood choice.
I had bought two small bags of wood, seasoned split logs (£4) and a plastic bag of kiln dried from b&Q (£8) the latter being the worst.
After searching the internet and seeing some high priced logs I found a supplier 20 mile away at a great price £80 for a tonne bag www.firewoodsupplies.co.uk, Craig the owner delivered the bag off the back of a small pickup fitted with a Hi-ab straight into my garage what a chap and what a find.
Now the fun begins, what to cook and when?
Has anyone got any recommendations we have been trailing the cookbooks and picking out potential candidates.
I will post most of my attempts while learning how to manage the oven temperature .
