Hi everyone,
We are back for season two - Cooking with Camille. As you know, the original plan was to complete every recipe in Jamie Oliver Jamie's Dinners cookbook however, as a result of Camille's allergy to fresh fish (which seems to have got worse since living in Canada) we stopped at the fish section. Having cooked our way through all the other sections of the cookbook. And at least she can eat tin fish...So, we are back in season two with a new Jamie Oliver cookbook.
'COOK with JAMIE'. Camille chose this book because Jamie says it's his "guide to making you (Camille in this instance) a better cook". The book also contains tips when shopping for the ingredients so we will include our shopping in the blog each week.
Another addition to season two, is the now confident cooking Camille has decided she would like to make our blog a little more interactive. So instead of each week Camille and I selecting a recipe from the cookbook, we will give our blog followers the opportunity to choose which recipe we should cook. How will it work?
Each week at the end of section four what Camille learnt, we will list the two upcoming recipes for our followers to choose the one that they would like Camille to cook the following week. The recipes to choose from will always include a main course selection, or a starter or dessert.
We did however, prepare a dessert from the new cookbook for the season two opener - which was Eton Mess (or it should be titled MONSTER MERINGUE WITH MOUNDS OF WHIPPED CREAM!) a meringue based dessert, with cream, fruits and fresh vanilla. We also opened season two with two guest chef's Maiya and Leia. We cooked on Saturday March 17, we all (including Maiya, Leia and their parents) had been invited to a mutual friends house for dinner. They have 3 children, so we made Eton Mess for 13 people and it took 2 hours.
What Camille Learnt...
1. You can buy egg whites already separated in a carton from the supermarket
2. How to make meringue (and if Jamie says for about 1 hour don't put the timer on for 1 hour exactly and leave it!)
3. How to make Eton Mess
4. And she is really happy to be starting a new season of Cooking with Camille - however, and this is me Alison speaking I hope she remembers she has to eat everything she makes!
